What are the classes like?
- The small groups can contain a mix of ACT and SAT students.
- Each student has their own lesson plan and completes a unique curriculum based on their needs.
- There is no group lecture, which is why we keep the ratio of student to teacher at 5:1. You can think of the small groups more as semi-private workshops.
How big are the classes?
Class size is capped at 15 students with 3 instructors. A student-to-teacher ratio of 5:1 increases the affordability of the program without sacrificing quality. Class time is spent working through your student's customized curriculum (filling knowledge gaps, building critical thinking skills, and mastering strategies).
How do i submit payment?
After your initial consultation, we'll prescribe a minimum number of classes for reaching your student's target scores. Payment is accepted via check or we can send you an invoice payable online with credit card or debit card.
What is a "Plan of Action"?
A Plan of Action is an outline that includes a timeline for reaching your student's target score. Based on information discovered during your initial consultation and the first mock exam (unless an official ACT/SAT is available), we will prescribe a minimum number of classes.
For example: Taylor is a student entering the summer before her Senior year. She scored a 24 on her first practice ACT. We can create a plan to increase Taylor's target score to a 29+. It will require her to attend class 2 times a week over the summer. We cannot accurately predict how high of a score she will obtain, but we estimate a score of a 27+ should she complete our 24-class program.
About Our semi-private classes
We give students a comprehensive study strategy that targets the 3 Keys of test prep:
- Filling knowledge gaps
- Building critical skills
- Test-taking strategies
We use only official practice questions from the makers of the tests: the College Board and the ACT. This is vital to student success.
Standardized tests are designed to intimidate even the most motivated student. We are excited to show students that it is absolutely possible to improve their score with the right tools and the right instructors.
What if we want both 1-on-1 and semi-private classes?
We provide hybrid programs (a mix of semi-private and private) so students can mix-and-match to fit their particular needs and availability.
SHOULD I TAKE THE SAT OR ACT?
Most students do approximately the same on the SAT and ACT, but some students tend to do better on one test over the other. The most accurate way to know which test to take is to take a practice test for each one. Although this is an investment of about 3 hours per test, it can save a lot of work later if you choose the right one. Another thing to consider is difficulty vs. timing. The ACT tends to be easier on a per question basis, but you need to go faster. The SAT tends to have questions that are more difficult to interpret, but there is more time to answer.
WHAT KIND OF MATERIALS ARE INCLUDED IN THE CURRICULUM?
All ACT semi-private and private packages include a binder with all materials (homework, tests, quizzes, strategy/review sheets). We provide access to virtually all of the real ACT practice tests that exist in the world (we have 40+). You can take as many of these as you like, and doing so is highly encouraged!
HOW DO YOU TRACK A STUDENT'S PROGRESS?
The first thing students do after signing up is take a full length practice test that we use as a diagnostic to determine his/her starting ACT/SAT score and come up with a plan. After beginning sessions, students will be required to take additional practice tests every 3 weeks. The practice test results are used to assess and re-evaluate the student’s needs.
ARE THERE ANY DISCOUNTS / SCHOLARSHIPS OFFERED FOR CLASSES?
We offer scholarships to our class for families in need. Please contact us and we will review your situation—it's important that all students have an equal opportunity regardless of financial situation.
WHEN WILL YOU GET IN TOUCH WITH ME AFTER I SIGN UP?
After you sign up for either semi-private or private sessions, we will contact you by phone and/or email to set things up. We'll try to be as speedy as possible, and usually can get the first session set up within a day or two.
WHAT HAPPENS IF I MISS A SESSION OR WOULD LIKE TO RESCHEDULE A SESSION?
It depends on how much notice you give us. We require at least 24 hours advance notice to reschedule or cancel a session. If you notify us of an absence less than 24 hours before the scheduled session, you will be charged for 50% of the scheduled time.
